How Do AvaTrade and Capital Index Compare?

The radar chart above illustrates the comparison between AvaTrade and Capital Index across several key metrics, with the highest possible score being 100 in each category.

Helping You Choose the Right Broker

At FxScouts, our mission is to assist traders in finding the broker that best suits their needs. Comparing brokers side-by-side is an effective method to achieve this goal. We evaluated AvaTrade and Capital Index, using our standard criteria: trust and regulation, trading platforms, costs and trading conditions, and educational and market analysis resources.

Trust and Regulation

Trust and regulation are crucial when selecting a Forex broker. A broker’s credibility is largely built on its regulatory status. We spend considerable time verifying the safety of each broker by examining their regulatory licenses. The more top-tier authorities regulating a broker, the higher its trust rating.

In our comparison:

  • AvaTrade holds three Tier 1 and two Tier 2 licences.
  • Capital Index holds three Tier 1 and no Tier 2 licences.

Based on these findings, AvaTrade earned a higher trust rating than Capital Index.

Is AvaTrade financially regulated?

Yes AvaTrade was founded in 2006 and is regulated by ASIC, CBI, CySEC, FRSA, FSA-Japan, FSCA and ISA.

Is Capital Index financially regulated?

Yes Capital Index was founded in 2015 and is regulated by BaFin, FCA, Fi and SCB.

Trading Costs Comparison

When comparing brokers, trading costs are a significant factor. We consider the minimum deposit required to open an account and ongoing costs, including spreads and commissions. We measure the cost to trade one lot of EUR/USD using the broker’s account with the lowest minimum deposit, including both the spread and any commission charged.

We found that AvaTrade has overall lower trading costs than Capital Index.

Top Overall Brokers by Broker Score

Trading Platforms Offered

Trading Platforms Offered Traders prefer brokers that offer a variety of trading platforms. We rate brokers higher if they support multiple platforms like MetaTrader4, MetaTrader5, cTrader, and proprietary platforms.

  • AvaTrade supports AvaOptions, Avatrade Social, MT4 and MT5
  • Capital Index supports MT4

Copy Trading Availability

Copy trading is beneficial for beginner traders or those unable to trade full-time. In this case both AvaTrade and Capital Index offer copy trading.

Range of Trading Instruments

A broader range of CFD instruments provides more trading opportunities. AvaTrade offers a greater variety of instruments compared to Capital Index:

  • AvaTrade: 63 Forex pairs.
  • Capital Index: 53 Forex pairs.

Cryptocurrency Trading

For those interested in trading cryptocurrencies, AvaTrade offers 30 cryptocurrencies, while Capital Index offers 0 cryptocurrencies. Therefore, AvaTrade is the better choice for cryptocurrency trading.

Deposit and Withdrawal Processes

Traders prefer brokers with quick and cost-effective deposit and withdrawal processes. We favor brokers that process withdrawals within 24 hours using multiple methods without charging fees.We found that neither AvaTrade nor Capital Index charges a withdrawal fee. Overall, AvaTrade has better deposit and withdrawal processes than Capital Index.

Educational Support?

We often find that brokers offer very little in the way of educational materials, forcing traders to use other third-party sites or self-educate elsewhere. Beginner traders need well-structured, well-presented materials in multiple formats to get a good start at trading. More experienced traders also benefit from webinars led by experts in the field and advanced trading strategy sections with new trading ideas.

AvaTrade has better educational support than Capital Index. Both AvaTrade and Capital Index offer educational support for more experienced traders.

Market Analysis Materials

Access to frequent and high-quality market research and analysis is crucial.

We found that AvaTrade offers better research analysis than Capital Index and that both AvaTrade and Capital Index offer frequent webinars.

Overall Verdict

  • AvaTrade:

Considered one of the best all-round brokers, Avatrade will be an attractive choice for most traders. In our review, we found that Avatrade has a wide range of tradable assets, low trading fees, and a choice of four different trading platforms. In addition, Avatrade offers some of the best trading tools in the industry, alongside a world-class selection of educational and market analysis materials, providing traders with everything they need to make trading decisions.

Avatrade is also popular for its award-winning mobile app, AvatradeGO, which has excellent risk management tools and a direct connection to AvaSocial, AvaTrade’s popular social trading system.

Indian traders may have an issue with Avatrade: because they are onboarded through Avatrade’s British Virgin Islands-based entity, they will have no recourse in the event of a dispute with the company.

  • Capital Index:

Founded in 2014, Capital Index appeals to traders looking for a well-regulated MT4 broker with a substantial Forex offering and a low deposit entry-level account with no commissions.

A multi-asset broker, Capital Index offers trading on commodities, indices and 53 Forex pairs, including majors, minors, and exotics.  Minimum deposits start at 100 USD on its Advanced Account, but spreads average at 1.4 pips on the EUR/USD, which is wider than other similar brokers.  Spreads tighten to 1.0 pips (EUR/USD) on its Pro Account, but this is in exchange for a minimum deposit of 10,000 USD, putting it out of the reach of most traders.

Although Capital Index is an MT4-only broker, it provides fast execution and allows all trading strategies, including hedging, scalping, and algorithmic trading.  A significant drawback is that Capital Index provides a limited selection of educational and market analysis materials, making it a poor choice for beginner traders.

Overall Ratings
